DMTC Limited (formerly the Defence Materials Technology Centre) is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, established in 2008 under the Australian Government’s Defence Future Capability Technology Centre Program. Since its inception, DMTC has successfully applied its collaborative model to the defence sector, earning the confidence of government stakeholders and enabling strategic expansion into the adjacent areas of national security and health security.
At the heart of DMTC’s mission is our commitment to strengthening Australia’s defence and national security by leveraging and advancing the knowledge and technical capacity within Australia’s sovereign industrial base. Through collaborative R&D projects with industry and research partners, DMTC plays a pivotal role in delivering critical technologies and solutions that address Australia’s most salient security challenges and align with sovereign defence and national security objectives.

This is particularly evident in DMTC’s emphasis on developing asymmetric and dual-use technologies, and in pursuing cross-platform innovations that strengthen the effectiveness of R&D efforts and enhance future interoperability.
DMTC’s services are not limited to multi-party, end-to-end project management. While program management and innovation stewardship – with a particular focus on the industrialisation and scalability of Australian research – are central to what we do, our service offering extends well beyond this. DMTC also provides strategic advice to and informs the policy direction of government, facilitates industry-informed technology transfer, and conducts capability mapping and sector intelligence analysis.
