Health Security Systems Australia
Health Security Systems Australia (HSSA) is a division of DMTC, established in July 2021 to lead a range of capability uplift and R&D programs mitigating the threat Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) hazards, including infectious diseases and pandemics, pose to Australia’s Defence and civilian personnel.
As a division of DMTC, HSSA benefits from DMTC’s trusted position in the defence and national security sectors, and internationally accredited systems in quality management, program delivery and collaborative engagement.
HSSA Program Portfolio

Through effective research and industry collaborations, HSSA drives the development of critical technologies and capabilities toward operational readiness, monitors Australia’s national health security capabilities, and delivers expert analysis and advice to Australian Government stakeholders.
Working across the Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Recovery (PPRR) lifecycle, HSSA’s programs and projects ensure a balanced approach to investment into pre-event actions (prevention/preparedness), as well as point of-/post- event (response/recovery) capabilities.

“I have had the pleasure of collaborating with the HSSA team on several projects and can confidently attest to their exceptional expertise in building sector-relevant research capability through collaboration and extensive national and global networks.”

Collaborative Partnerships
In addition to the Division’s core programs, HSSA advocates for the importance of national health security and the strengthening of national collaborations required to underpin this key priority for Australia. To this end, HSSA partners with numerous collaborative initiatives and organisations that are focused on national health security. Working together enables synergistic actions and streamlined strategies to benefit Australia’s health security. Click here to see HSSA's partnerships.
