CBR Modelling & Simulation

CBR Modelling Simulation Logo DMTC

Chemical, Biological and Radiological (CBR) threats can emerge suddenly and spread quickly. Australia’s national security depends on effective surveillance, measurement and prediction, to respond to and protect from these threats.

In collaboration with experts in partner organisations from defence, academia and industry across Australia, HSSA’s CBR Modelling & Simulation Program is developing powerful technologies to help decision-makers better anticipate CBR risks, allowing rapid and informed action to safeguard communities.

HSSA’s Collaborative R&D Projects in CBR Modelling & Simulation include:

  • Predicting how hazards spread
Advancing prediction models that map how threats move through environments to give defence and first responder personnel critical time to act. This work complements international research commissioned by DSTG under an international cooperative agreement between Australia and the Republic of Korea.

  • Spotting health risks early
Proactive tracking of patterns in health data and incorporation into developmental computational models to better predict disease spread and detect emerging crises before they escalate.

  • Testing without risk
Developing artificial models to simulate how hazards and countermeasures interact with the human body to accelerate discovery and reduce the need for in-life trials.

Why This Work Matters

Outcomes from this program will:

  • increase the understanding of the effects of CBR hazards, and
  • provide time-critical information to support effective decision-making, to
  • better protect Australia’s frontline personnel and the public against the risk of CBR threats.

Collaboration Opportunities

HSSA is always looking to connect with innovators across the research, industry and government sectors who want to make a real impact on Australia’s national health security.
