Principles in practice: Emerging leader gains new perspective on corporate governance

DMTC Limited (DMTC) is pleased to announce Meghan Hennessy as the recipient of the 2026 DMTC Guest of the Chair Fellowship.

A Licensing Officer at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), Meghan’s responsibilities include maintenance of the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency’s licencing requirements. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from the Australian National University and is currently completing a Master of Engineering Science (Nuclear Engineering) at the University of New South Wales. In 2025, Meghan was also awarded a place in the International Atomic Energy Agency’s prestigious Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship Programme.

Established in 2023, DMTC’s Guest of the Chair Fellowship is a mentoring and leadership development initiative developed to provide emerging leaders with an opportunity to observe and gain insights into the work of a Board of Directors at a not-for-profit company operating at the heart of Australia’s defence and national security innovation ecosystem.

New partnership to unlock innovation opportunities and accelerate capability outcomes for Defence, national security and AUKUS

Australian companies EarlyBirds and DMTC Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enable and accelerate defence-focused innovation, strengthen sovereign industrial capability, and improve the transition of emerging technologies into operational outcomes for Australia and like-minded alliance partners.

The MOU formalises and builds on prior collaboration between the two organisations.

Existing work packages have demonstrated how data-driven and technically informed innovation discovery and ecosystem mapping can complement structured Defence collaboration programs. The new agreement provides a pathway to further align EarlyBirds’ global innovation intelligence platform with DMTC’s established Defence engagement frameworks and program delivery expertise.

Recognising Innovation Excellence

In 2025, DMTC made the difficult decision to cancel its Annual Conference as a result of a confluence of logistical challenges and external factors. Notwithstanding, DMTC remained committed to engaging with its stakeholders and celebrating outstanding contributions to DMTC from across its partner community, continuing its tradition of presenting annual Awards for Excellence.

Mark Hodge has served as Chief Executive Officer of DMTC since its inception in June 2008, overseeing the organisation’s success in a range of activities centred on Australia’s defence and national security. He has led the strategy for DMTC’s transition to a sustainable industry capability partner as agencies across Government increasingly look to industry to support Australia’s strategic national security objectives. He is a tireless advocate for science and technology and its applications in advancing Australia’s national interests, and has worked in leadership and professional roles in the defence and aerospace fields for his entire professional career.

Dr Hodge serves on a range of advisory boards, committees and panels, including the Department of Defence’s Innovation Steering Group and as Chair of the Board of the AUSMURI Additive Manufacturing of Advanced Metallurgical Alloys Program. He is a former Director and Deputy Chair of the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) Association. An author of several research publications on advanced defence materials, Dr Hodge is the recipient of several industry and research-sector awards and is a fellow of The Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering.
